‘Twas The Night Before School

‘Twas The Night Before School

Tags are trimmed off new clothes and the door lined with shoes.  Packs are stuffed with supplies that have never been used.  Uniforms are laid out with white bobby socks too, and my children are sleeping, I know not what to do.  Should I blog, should I work, should I...

Welcome to My Blog

The Relevance of Christmas

I’ve a grown a bit weary of the frivolities of Christmas.  Cheap strings of lights on houses, larger-than-life candy canes lining driveways, Santa posing for kids’ photos in the mall, junk mail with pictures of shiny red bows on tools offering “More Christmas”...the...

To Coupon or Not To Coupon

I already regret not taking a photo today. It’s what all good coupon ladies do when they save a bundle. I always feel slightly embarrassed for them when I see their whole load of groceries laying out there for everyone to see. It sort of makes me feel like a nosy grocery clerk. You know, the one that comments on everything on the conveyor belt? My blood’s already boiling just thinking of it. So with that in mind, I chose not to photograph my big load today. But now that I’ve tallied up the earnings, I really wish I had a picture to prove it. It’s like a rite of passage for a brand-new couponer to have a photo to show the goods. You’ll just have to take my word for what I bought.

So It’s Not an iPhone

I am a total Apple fan. I made the Big Switch a couple of years ago when I qualified (for a very short period of time) for a massive education discount off of new Apple computers and Adobe Creative Suite 3. I had drooled over iMacs and Macbooks for months, and shortly...

Brimming…

The tears took me by surprise last year when I saw Will off to his first day of kindergarten.  I had so looked forward to having some relief from the constant entertainment I must provide to keep his smart little wheels turning.  I remembered my mom telling me how she...

Life in Southwest Oklahoma

Over five years ago, when we first drove through 30 miles of cotton and wheat fields on our way out to the western prairie to check out our new small town, I wondered where in the world we were going. We drove pretty far out in the middle of nowhere, when all of a sudden we came upon this quaint little southwestern town that looked like it was straight out of the movies.

Power Hour

While I hadn’t planned on dieting my way into 2009, I did include better housekeeping in my list of New Year’s goals.  I think what I scratched on the scrap paper by my computer was, “Clean Something Every Day.” That scratch paper is as far as I have gotten in...

Working from Home

Last night I let the kids stay up late coloring at the coffee table while I sat on the couch proofing my latest web project.  Most of my work I do after they go to bed, but on this Christmas vacation schedule, we’re not so pressed to get them to bed at a reasonable...

Our 2008 Tree

I’ve always admired people who have a Christmas tree in every room. I personally find it far too difficult and time-consuming to put up more than one tree, although I have been known to put up maybe one big tree and a couple of small ones. After all, we don’t usually finish our tree until the day or two before Christmas. We start early enough–don’t be mistaken.

Foolproof?

It’s inevitable. When I get in the kitchen, there is going to be trouble. And that’s a problem, because I practically live in the kitchen.
